Assisting teacher at the Port St Johns Junior Secondary School

The aim of the volunteer placement at the school is to build on the well-being of the children of this area, by providing them with high quality education. By placing international volunteers, the children will get exposed to a different culture, new experiences and outside perspectives, which will broaden their view and knowledge. The main focus of the volunteer is to teach children aged between 3-6 years, following the official curriculum as approved by the Department of Education in Grade R and Grade 1. Apart from assisting the teachers in the younger grades, volunteers can also be placed in Grade4, 5 and 6 where they are allocated with six teaching hours per week. These lessons are aimed to teach the children special life skills and to educate them about subjects that are not provided in the official curriculum, such as career guidance, basic health care, how to compile a CV, …
