British Council – August to December 2016
Teaching Assistant, G D Goenka Public School Ghaziabad
As part of the Generation-UK India programme by the British Council I spent 5 months working at a school in Ghaziabad, a city near New Delhi. The school is a co-educational, private facility for students aged 3-18 years. My primary role was planning and teaching lessons in line with the English CBSE curriculum to 6-14 year olds, including grammar and a variety of traditional English literature. I have also taken part in extra-curricular activities including writing and directing a class play, leading workshops, dance, art and sport classes. Having completed my 120 hour online TEFL course since being in India, I am keen to build on my experience and take on more responsibility at a new school.
Primary Times - August 2011 to present.
Editorial Assistant
Working for over five years for a magazine for primary schools, I have always had an interest in teaching which has been consolidated by my experience at school in India. My main role at Primary Times involves proof reading and editing the written pieces that go in the magazine alongside adverts. I edit the pieces into our house style, check for spelling errors and mainly make sure that the editorial reads well and represents the company accuray. My experience with editing means I have an eye for detail and a knowledge of English grammar that is directly applicable to my role as a teacher.
Ambassador Productions – October 2014 to June 2015
Sales Assistant
Ambassador Productions sells graduation photographs, plaques and ceremony DVDs at graduations across Australia. Since beginning at the company in 2014, I gradually gained more responsibility, leading the photograph sales staff at events, representing the company alone at various universities and working on the company s in the office.
HTA News – 2012 to April 2013
Proof Reader
HTA News is a national horticultural magazine. I worked on various issues throughout 2012 to April 2013. My role was to cast a final eye over the completed magazine, looking for spelling errors and problems in the layout. Once again, my experience as a proof reader has proved very useful in the classroom, particularly with the focus on grammar in teaching English as a foreign language.
About Me
My goal is to live in as many different countries as possible, working as I travel seems the perfect way to do this! When I lived in Sydney I balanced my work in sales and my studies at university with ambitious travel plans and had the time of my life. In India, I taught 5 days a week in a private school and used my weekends to explore the north of India around my base in Delhi. I'm currently exploring Sri Lanka before heading to Vietnam hopefully to work as an English teacher again. I've adopted a very casual approach to 2017, I have no set plans I'm just excited to see what will happen!
I guess you could say my main passion is travelling, but more than that I love living abroad and setting up a little life for myself in a brand new place. Beyond that I love reading, learning (I have a BA degree in Philosophy and History and am considering a MA), being creative with painting etc, adventuring, exploring, meeting new
