PERSONAL STATEMENT
As a student I have gained a lot of international experience through study abroad. In Ireland, I met important Irish
politicians like John Hume. During my time in Germany, I honed my German skills and absorbed German culture
by studying at a German University. My GPA has always been higher than a and years ago I became a member
of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. My research interests include the Viking Age. During my time at GRCC, I
won first place in a Research paper competition with an essay I wrote on the Vikings and their influence on
Ireland.

Irish History taught me about the interaction between the Vikings and Ireland, for example how the Vikings
founded Dublin. This class also gave me the chance to write a research paper on the Vikings, which won first place
in a GRCC Essay competition.

PERSONAL INTERESTS
I have always loved reading, especially the works of Tolkien and Lewis. Lay, I have been reading
Icelandic sagas and the poetry of the Poetic Edda. I love learning about various religions especially different
mythologies and metaphysical views. I find that religion is often heavily tethered to culture. I believe that to
understand an individual's world-view is to understand that individual. I love travelling, discovering the similarities
and differences between cultures. I enjoy learning new languages and new ways of viewing the world. I am very
interested in how history, religion, and language all combine to form the culture of a nation or region.
