Profile
Through a degree in International Development and various volunteer projects, I have always had a desire for helping others in vulnerable situations. A keen interest in world affairs and more specifically, human welfare in developing countries is something which influenced and helped my choice of studies at university. A passion for volunteering is one of my hobbies, and has enabled me to experience different cultures, both at home and abroad. My current job is a challenge which I enjoy, and provides a place for me to continue to use the skills I have gained through various volunteer projects. I am outgoing, sociable and compassionate with a positive and optimistic outlook on life. A desirable career is one where I can support people, who may face extra challenges in everyday tasks, towards leading an empowered and rewarding life.


Experience
Support Worker September 2014 – present

A full time position in a residential home for adults with a variety of learning disabilities. Everyday work is centered on supporting individuals with activities of their choice in order to promote their independence and empowerment towards leading a fulfilling life.
WaterAid, Glastonbury Music Festival, UK
WaterAid volunteer June 2014
Participating as a key member in a recycling team whilst representing a UK based water charity at a popular music festival. Part of this volunteering involved educating and encouraging festival goers to sign the WaterAid Change the Record campaign, as part of endorsing WaterAid's mission.

FoodCycle, Norwich, UK
FoodCycle volunteer October 2013 – February 2014
Volunteer work with national charity FoodCycle who utilise surplus food from local shops and supermarkets to prepare and cook meals for those vulnerable to food poverty and social isolation.

University steward September 2013
Providing assistance to new students moving into their campus accommodation. This involved working efficiently as a team to ensure that parents and new students felt welcome and at ease during their arrival.

UEA Friend Scheme September 2013 – June 2014
Volunteering in association with University of East Anglia centered around becoming a UK ‘friend’ for two new international students; offering the opportunity of friendship and support, English language practice and assisting with any questions or general conversation for those who may find difficulty with immersing into British university life and culture.

Teaching June 2013 – August 2013
Teaching English to Buddhist monks aged between 6 and 19. This was in a classroom environment preparing daily lesson plans, activities and games for learning English, whilst understanding how to manage a class of children with a wide range of academic abilities whose mother tongue was not English. In addition, I provided one-on-one adult learning sessions as required.

A position focused on customer care and service within a local village shop. Duties included ensuring adequate levels of stock, sales and financial transactions and complying with health and safety regulations. Trusted to work independently when necessary.
