Host overview

It's hard to describe my husband and me as "empty-nesters", because our home is hardly empty, but we are the only two-legged residents here, since our daughters are grown and "launched". We share our home and our lives with a rather large menagerie of rescued animals: 4 small dogs; 3 cats; and 8 house rabbits. Obviously, we are animal lovers, and we are vegan.

Before we adopted our daughters from Russia, I was an architectural and aviation photographer, and my husband is a commercial real estate developer in Baltimore, MD. I am now in the process of starting a new jewelry business.

    What we provide

    How we work

In exchange for 25 hours of help per week, we’re offering a beautifully decorated, large and very private bedroom on the lower level of our home, with a private bath and gorgeous view, to the first individual to apply and be accepted to help with our list of special projects. We provide three meals/day, but you will be responsible for preparing/cleaning up after your own breakfast during the week, although we sometimes do group breakfasts on the weekend. We eat mostly organic food, and are vegan, and I am an excellent and creative cook. We don’t provide beer or wine, but have no objections if you drink either (in moderation, please) with dinner. No smoking or drug use, please. Our large home has a fully and well equipped home gym, five working fireplaces, screened porch, large deck and is situated on five hilly acres. We have WiFi and Netflix and an extensive collection of movies on DVD, as well as a rather large selection of books. We’re in northern Baltimore County, about 30 minutes from the city, are close to shopping and conveniences, but enjoy a rather rural setting, close to hiking and biking trails, Loch Raven Reservoir for canoeing or kayaking, and many beautiful horse farms. Baltimore has much to offer from a traveler's perspective: world class museums, the Chesapeake Bay, Fell's Point, the Inner Harbor, Harbor East, to name but a few. From Baltimore, it's an easy train ride to New York, Washington, DC and Philadelphia. I’m happy to take you into Baltimore and possibly to DC and/or Philadelphia once a week during the summer months. Although there’s no public transportation accessible on foot from our home, I’m also happy to take you to the nearest bus stop or Light Rail station on your days off. I ask only that we agree in advance on your departure and arrival times.
