Bio

Hello!

My name is Michael Shull and my intent is to travel lightly and devote myself to helping the world in every community I find myself in. The drive I have to pursue this path is due to the nature of modern society, which I feel is trying to drive us inward, isolating us from the world around us. This is not to say I am any kind of Luddite, as I feel society has (and can continue to be) greatly improved by technology. However, I’ve felt that over the past seven years, living solely for my own benefit has not been fulfilling.

I have hardly any attachments or distractions. I do not have children, have never been married, and have no intention of pursuing either in my life. I feel I’ve brought all the good I can to my family in my current living situation, and I chase this desire with their blessing. Due to our moral and religious differences, my time spent with them is coming to an end, though our relationship is still loving despite our differences.

I am an avid reader of texts relating to philosophy, science, religion, spiritual practice, and psychology. I am not a part of any formal organized religious institution. I keep records of my experiences and thoughts/notable passages/quotes in a journal as I progress. I feel a record is necessary as one proceeds down a spiritual path. Many times it feels like I’m a botanist in a forest of undiscovered plants.

I have seen many things in my life and I am not easily distraught or disturbed as long as I am helping make a positive impact in the communities served. I understand that all levels of life create suffering or negativity of some form, but I feel the goal of every individual should be to counter these costs with pursuits that generate hope, optimism, and helpfulness to all life. I respect the moral and cultural differences of others and I feel living by example is much more effective than imposing restrictions on the lives of others.

Physically my health has greatly improved in the last two months. I have almost compley recovered from most health conditions from the past seven years, with the exception of my weight, which has been improving by great leaps and bounds and in a healthy manner. For environmental, moral, and personal health reasons, I try to reduce my consumption of meat, though I have not entirely eliminated meat from my diet.

Please consider me for your volunteer opportunity. I would very much like to live a life in the service of others and for the good of all. The nature of my philosophical and spiritual leanings entail constant internal change and progress. I do not expect the path to end in this lifetime. The only thing that matters to me is that I try to follow it at all times.
