About Me

Since I was in high school I was sure about becoming a Mathematician. During all my student years, I’ve noticed that there is more than just knowledge and passion needed for becoming a good mathematician/instructor. Attitude and dedication are two important assets for this profession, which I'm sure I count with. I followed a 5 year program in Mathematics at the University of Texas at Brownsville, which consists on pursuing a Bachelor in Science Degree in Mathematics and a Master in Mathematics Degree with emphasis in Teaching Mathematics.

I’m currently working as the Math Specialist at Premier High School of North Austin. My job consists of offering instructional support to students in any math course (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Math Models, and Pre-Calculus) by developing, modifying and teaching lessons in the curriculum; collaborating with lead teachers to ensure that we cover each student’s needs and help them improve their education; and measuring and analyzing students’ progress and performance in the mathematics area. Currently my main task consists of preparing students for State Assessments, STAAR and TAKS tests, by developing and teaching lessons based on state standards and objectives. My previous position as a Lead teacher at Premier High School consisted of helping, guiding, teaching and facilitating the learning process for 11th and 12th grade students. Even though my area of expertise is mathematics, I was helping my students in all other subjects, even Spanish, which is my first language. Some of my other duties were maintaining academic progress, discipline and records, participating in Parent/teacher conferences as an interpreter, and working with parents and students to provide and implement individualized education to meet the needs of all students.

My previous job was as a math tutor for the Sylvan Learning Center. My job consisted of going to different High schools in Austin, such as Travis, Crockett, Eastside and Reagan High School, and work with small groups of students throughout the day to reinforce the skills they learned in math class. My main responsibilities were to coordinate and plan with the math teachers the lessons and material, offer differentiated instruction and different teaching techniques to help the students improve their performance and grades. During that time I was also working as a private tutor for middle school students with the company Math for Keeps. As a private tutor, I gained experience in developing individualized lesson, depending on the student’s needs, strengths and weaknesses. I also worked at the University of Texas at Brownsville for almost 3 years. During that time I worked as a professor’s assistant, research assistant, and a math tutor and I learned so many important skills which I know will be useful for my future as a math teacher. As a research assistant, my job was to develop mathematical proofs of essential Geometry Theorems in a computer software called Geogebra, and present my project at the Geogebra Conference 2012 at Warsaw, Poland. By doing this project, I learn different ways of implementing technology into mathematics education and different interactive ways of teaching crucial mathematical proofs. I’ve also done some observations at different high schools for some of the education courses I’ve taken. On the spring semester of 2010 I went to BECHS (Brownsville Early College High School) to complete my observation hours.

Mathematics is one of the most struggling academic subjects; Research shows that some of the fastest growing careers in the present require a background in math, this is why one of my goals is to take advantage of my knowledge, abilities, and dedication to grow in this area as much as I can, to guide and help others grow as well. My most important goal is to become a mathematics specialist capable of providing the tools and knowledge even to the most struggling students. I want to become an effectively trained, outstanding mathematician capable of satisfying every student needs, and to help our community to improve and our young people to have better expectations and become goal oriented. Finally, I know that with my experience and education, together with my abilities and motivation, will help me achieve my goals.

My resume, which is enclosed, contains additional information on my experience and skills. I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss the Mathematics Coordinator position available with you and to provide you further information. I can be reached via my cell , 956-572-1889 or by at
