I am a self-motivated and driven individual, cope well under pressure and generating solutions is what makes me love what I do.  I have been working in the electrical industry for over 24 years with extensive experience in various fields.  I qualified as an electrician in 1998 and in 2000 my wireman's license.  I've had the privilege of owning my own electrical contractors business for 9 years.

I have been involved in various projects at timber and paper mills, steel, water, sewerage, processing and bottling plants, industrial and commercial sectors, the nut and fruit industry and agriculture and forestry.  These projects ran  in South Africa, Malawi, Nigeria, Kenya, Malawi,  Angola and Mozambique.


My experience includes the following:


•  Project planning, design/management (quotation, design, assembly/manufacture, and final commissioning)


•  VSD’s and soft starters:  new installations, refurbishments and upgrading


•  PLC’s:  new installations, upgrading and basic programming


•  Control and distribution panels – supply new and refurbish old units:  quote, design, manufacture and factory testing


•  Instrumentation (pressure transducers, flow, temperature and humidity control, PID control)


•  Wireless communication:  installation of radio, emetry and GPRS systems


•  Generators:  manufacture and install automatic change over systems


•  Power factor correction:  manufacture, installed and maintained


•  PV (Photovoltaic) / Solar (residential & commercial):  Audits/Inspections, Risk mitigation,  Maintenance, Performance monitoring, IPP working partnerships


•  Metering and monitoring:  Basic or smart meter technology, BMS (Building Management Systems), AMR (Automatic Meter Reading), Monitoring and control, Power consumption and reticulation verification.


•  Certificate of Compliance which is required by law in South Africa, (as per Code of Practice SANS 10142 ) with any new electrical installation or where any addition or alteration has been made.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE


Company:  Electro Systems (August 1995 - May 2003) - 8 years


Position held:  Project Manager/Panel Designer


I joined the company as an apprentice where I mainly did the wiring of control panels, and qualified as an electrician.  I also did my wireman's license four years later.  Fault finding and breakdowns were my main responsibility by then and I worked my way up over the years to Workshop Manager.


At this stage my main focus and responsibility was to design, manufacture and commission electrical control panels,  and to manage the workshop staff and electricians.  I was later promoted to Project Manager where my duties included:


• Quotes


• Liaising with clients


• Receiving of orders


• Design of control panels electrical circuit using WS Cad


• Compiling a spares list for each project


• Planning and coordinating of projects


• Factory testing and commissioning


• Handover to client


• Final on site inspection


As there were no prospects for me to work my way further up in the company, I made the decision to resign and in 2003 I established my own electrical contractors company.
