Skills & Personal Qualities
ORGANIZATION

  • DUO ZE/ZE CIRCUS/SOUTHERN GLOW MEDICINE. Created, owned, ran and sold two small variety entertainment circuses and continue to run a small folk magic supply business. Collaborated in producing, choreographing, and marketing original acts and handmade products both on-line, in person, and through retailers. Developed and customized fitness and performance content for programs, workshops, seminars, and classes for both private individuals and groups. My involvement also included market research, design and evaluation of products, marketing, sales, and distribution.

CARING

  • PLAYFUL LEARNERS PRESCHOOL. Developed and implemented the current school-age curriculum, introduced students and staff to creative movement play, prop manipulation, and the joys of hallway roller skating during teacher workdays. Provided interactive entertainment, a rotation of new and interesting props, effective spotting, efficient instruction, and supervision for children ages 0-11 in both outdoor and classroom settings. Assisted with administrative duties, cleaning, maintenance of property, and meal preparation. Created, developed, and continue to maintain their current site.

COMMUNICATION

  • SEAPORT VILLAGE. Adapted my formal study of public speaking to open-air crowd-gathering skills in public spaces. Organized and performed interactive acrobatic and fire shows for diverse audiences. Actively engaged in event-planning and production, fundraising, management and training of performers, and booking of shows.

PASSION

  • CIRCUS PLAYTIME. Created and implemented a donation-funded recreational circus program for children and adults. Provided props, offered both group and individual instruction, and supervised activities. Oversaw the safe use of equipment and the safety and learning-progress of participants.

COMMUNITY BUILDING

  • SLAB CITY REBEL CIRCUS. Conceptualized, organized, and co-founded an activist community dedicated to educating, skill sharing, co-creating safe space, and teaching circus arts to members of fringe society (homeless, transients, train-hoppers, et al.).

VERSATILITY & HUMILITY

  • VARIOUS OTHER. I have worked many other jobs and been involved in many other art and performance projects unrelated to my current objective. I have worked as a barista for various coffee shops throughout Virginia and on the West Coast. I have cut logs at an artisanal sawmill and taught Sunday school. I have been an editorial assistant for a small publishing company. What I have learned through all of my various engagements is the value of commitment to discipline and reliability, a belief in hard work as well as thoughtful work, and a respect for those who make and build companies and realize dreams.
