WORK IN FEJER MEGYE ALL YEAR ROUND
Fejér County forms part of Western Transdanubia, a region in Hungary which is located west of the River Danube. The geography is diverse, hilly in the north and flat in the south. It's easternmost part is close to Lake Balaton (known as the Hungarian Sea). Traditionally Fejér county has been an agricultural region and therefore most work here will be seasonal (vineyards, farm work etc). However, Fejér is also home to some important large historical towns such as Székesfehérvár. Fejér county also includes Lake Valence which is a popular tourist resort. During high season (the summer months) work may be found in the service industries around Lake Valence and the much larger Lake Balaton.
SEASONAL WORK IN FEJER MEGYE
SPRING
Spring is a great time for any type of agricultural work in Fejér and there is usually plenty to be done from ploughing, planting, sowing etc. Generally this time of year is quite busy with many preparing for the growing season (as well as preparing for the next winter i.e. wood stacking etc).
SUMMER
The summer months in Hungary are usually HOT, temps can reach up to 40c and beyond so do bear this in mind. Summer is perhaps the best time for service industry type work supporting Lake Valence and Lake Balaton (even though technically Fejér county does not extend to Lake Balaton...the tourist industry does have an impact on the county via holiday lets/toursim etc). You can also find farming and agricultural type work.
AUTUMN
Autumn is harvest time in Fejér and there is muck work to be done in harvesting grapes and vegetables etc as well as preparing for the winter ahead. Like spring this can be a busy month. The weather in September is still generally very good and some tourist places are still open, with most closing by the end of September.
WINTER
The weather can be quite severe in the winter with temperatures falling as low as minus 20. Winter is usually short but swift however it is unlikely travellers would find work in Fejér during the winter months.
ATTITUDE TO FOREIGNERS WORKING IN FEJER MEGYE
In general, work is difficult to find in Hungary...unless you are living and working in Budapest.
Most locals work incredibly hard for very little and would perhaps not understand the concept of volunteers. Having said this Hungarians love people coming to their country and are extremely welcoming to foreigners. Locals love to brush up or learn language skills. You are unlikely to ever forget Hungarian hospitality.
