WORK IN CHRISTCHURCH CITY ALL YEAR ROUND

Source: I have lived here for 27 years!

Currently Christchurch City is rebuilding the damage caused by earthquakes between 2010 - 2012. This opens a great opportunity for skilled labour to work on contract basis within the central city or the outskirts of Christchurch. Accommodation is not cheap here but the wages for skilled labour are ample to cover rent and spending.

The job market can be competitive as a number of people immigrated from other countries to work here after the earthquakes.

Easy jobs to find:
- The hospitality scene in Christchurch is on the rise and bars and restaurants are always seeking people with experience.
- Labouring for city rebuild,
- Commission-based sales roles,
- The outer areas of Christchurch/Canterbury seek farm hands all year round,
- There are vineyards and market gardens all through the Canterbury region who seek seasonal workers to assist with picking and packing,
- Customer service/call centre work.

Awesome opportunities:
- There are lots of informal timeshare systems operating in Christchurch. People help you out if you can help them with something.
- Couchsurfing. Try it. Christchurch is generally very safe and people are always keen to help someone out.
- Christchurch has an amazing street art culture that is constantly growing. Get involved with some local artists.
- GapFiller - google it.
Tip: Put notices up on the billboard at the local supermarket offering labour (moving lawns, gardening, car grooming, etc at cheap rates. A number of elderly people who require assistance and homemakers read these during the weekly shop so it can be a useful tool to find cash-paid work.
